Dear Triathlete:
The current condition of my offce is proof the triathlon is only days away! 8 days to be specific.
As I was finalizing the 2017 ArrowSwift Official Race Guide this week, I got to thinking about some rules that everyone, no matter if this is your first or four-hundredth triathlon, should brush up on every now and then.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: We still have about 25 positions we need to fill. If you know anyone that may be interested in volunteering at the 2017 Tri Greenville Triathlon, please encourage them to sign up on our online Volunteer Registration page or contact us right away, 616.754.8887. Volunteers receive a cool shirt, food and get to enjoy the event from a unique perspective.
RULES OF THE ROAD: Most triathletes come to races with only a rudimentary understanding of the rules of the sport. Indeed few have ever read through the Competitive Rules in it’s entirely. In order to minimize misunderstandings on race day, I hope you will take the time to read my summary of Position Violations, which you probably know as drafting rules. Click HERE to download the Rules Of The Road summary. Don’t worry, I have reduced the Position Rules to a few simple concepts that everyone can remember.
TIMING INFO: Let’s be honest, aside from safety, timing accuracy is the next most important detail of a race to most people. EPIC Race Timing LLC will be performing our Race Timing Services this year. You are likely familiar with them as they do the timing for the Grand Rapids Tri. There are a few things they asked me to share with you to ensure accurate and problem free timing services.
- Our timing chip is a non-disposable race timing chip. It will be provided to you on a neoprene band.
- Dropping Out: if you are unable to complete the race, please return the timing chip to the Timing Representative at the finish line. You will not be able to continue the remainder of the event. This will let us know that you have returned to transition and not out on the course. Please do not return the chip to a volunteer.
- Lost Chips: if you happen to lose your timing chip during the race, please inform a Timing Representative as you come into transition, he/she can quickly provide you with a replacement chip so that your times will be recorded for the rest of the event. This change in chip number will be updated in the timing system.
- Relays: if you are participating in a relay, the timing chip will act as your baton which you will pass to the next person on your team inside transition at your rack location. Please be sure that the timing chip is securely fastened to your ankle before leaving transition.
- Finish Line: Once you have completed the race, volunteers will be at the finish line to greet you to collect/remove your timing chip.
- Unreturned Chips: once you receive the timing chip, it becomes your responsibility. There will be a $30 charge for any timing chip that is not returned at the end of the race. If you accidentally take the chip home with you, please mail immediately to Epic Race Timing, 1545 Orville St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49507.
- Results: preliminary results will be posted and updated regularly on the Results Board located on the wall of the beach bath house. If you feel there is a discrepancy with your timing results, please notify the Timing Representative at the Results Board immediately. The timing system has a back-up system to their back up system so if there is a discrepancy in the posted results, they will get it corrected!
Lastly, I thought I would share some information that we sent to our participant last year . These are great tips that will help you on race day, especially for the first timers.
Keep a watch on your email for more upcoming information about the TriGreenville Triathlon. Additional information will be coming to you or you may visit our website at trigreenville.com for complete event day details and information.
